Day 749

One of my worst fears came true today.

Titus, I accidentally locked you in the car with the keys inside. You safely survived the experience. Totally unscathed and maybe even unsuspecting of the moment of danger you were in. Considering, it was the best case scenario. The winds were cracked open and you had a bag of apple slices in your hand. A mother of three was walking by so I stopped her to ask to use the phone to call AAA. Luckily, we were able to flag down the sheriff officers across the street to help us as well. I was so thankful for the help of strangers.
The mother was able to reach in with her long slender arms to open your side of the door... but it was on child lock. Her two daughters tried to reach in and grab my keys that were laying atop my bag.. but their arms were too short. One of the sheriffs successfully used his stick/baton to hook the keys onto the end of stick.

All in all I think it took less than 5 minutes. Despite the situation, I acted relatively calm.. although my head was spinning and I felt almost paralyzed. I was so thankful that these people were acting so quickly to help you and me. You are so interested in police cars but not so much police officers. You just called them uncle.
I might get one of those key chains that I can wear around my neck. ha ha.

You have been sleeping through the night in your own room, on your own bed for the past 5 days. We are so proud of you and surprised!

Day 747

I feel like I am finally getting the hang of things. I have adjusted to the new normal. So here I am! Back! Trying to blog so that you can read this in the future Titus. I thought it would be easier than to have you leaf through my journals when you are older.

You are growing up so fast Titus. I put on a dress this morning for church and you came to me and told me "umma lee puh" (Mom pretty). I melted.

We hung out at Americana after your nap while your dad went to "shoot" (play basketball). You finally have warmed up to wearing a hat! You wore it all afternoon and held onto your new "dusty" (airplane) that Grandma Park gave you for your birthday. We took a ride on the trolley and were so excited. You sat at the edge of the bench so that you could let your feel dangle. As the trolley started moving, you laid one hand on my knee for security.

You are already quite the back seat driver. On the way out of the parking lot, you yelled "Umma chun chun lee gah!" (Mom go slow!) all the way from the 6th floor to the exit.

You are trying to learn your colors and how to count these days.
You always ask for permission to do anything you know might not be okay or if we have said no in the past (i.e. sucking on your thumb, jumping off the couch, running)

I started telling you yesterday that you will be getting on a real "dusty" soon. Tonight you fell asleep holding up your five little fingers repeating to me that you will be on a "dusty" after 5 days of school. You're getting on an airplane for the 3rd time in your life to go to Chicago on Saturday. Then we are driving back home on a RV via Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone with all the Park family.

Your dad and I sit and just marvel at you a lot these days. You are curious, talkative, opinionated, goofy, yet serious. We love to see what catches your attention. You stop everything you're doing to watch certain commercials on TV. You notice the sound of any air craft or a loud car that passes by.
On the way to and from school you point out "cha chang myun" "market" "french fries" "toyota" "orange bus" "tire" "ice cream".

Your dad thinks it's all about timing.. Finally. You slept in your own bed in your own room for the first time last night and did not wake up in the middle of the night. Your parents had no idea what to do with themselves. I am crossing my fingers that tonight will be a repeat of last night!

"Nature's Candy" - Chris Traeger, Parks and Recreation

2 years and 2 weeks old

Titus, so far you have yet to taste actually hard candy. The most we have given you is organic fruit leather strips from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. I think you have had apple juice 4 times in your life and maybe a few cups of gatorade or as you like to call it "NBA Juice". You like to snack on your vegan gluten free chips, almonds, and cranberries. You know what candy looks like, you just have not had any yet. So when you got raisins in a small red box for your after school snack last week... you were ecstatic!! You thought you were eating candy!! We tried to reason with you and explain that they are like cranberries.. they are like the fruit leather... but you would not have it. It was candy to you.
